Correctly
referencing each test site is important to any piping investigation. Future
interest may exist to provide follow-up testing of a specific location, to
contract another NDT service to verify previous findings, or in many cases, to
actually cut out the pipe for metallurgical analysis. Providing an accurate
written description of an exact test location is, for most piping systems,
difficult, if not impossible.
Tags,
labels, permanent markers, and tape can be used for test location
identification. However, a photograph with the test site highlighted produces
the clearest description of the actual test location, and in cases where the
report is reviewed by individuals not completely familiar with piping systems,
such as property investors and attorneys, provides some added insight into the
issue.
