A written description of the test site is provided in addition to an actual location photograph - this in order to aid in its identification. The original wall thickness of the pipe location is determined, and serves as the basis of all corrosion rate calculations and service life projections. When possible, the pipe is identified as beginning at or exceeding factory ASME specification. Minimum acceptable wall thickness is provided based upon system operating characteristics, thread depth, pipe size, and pressure.

The standard deviation of the 12 measured wall thickness values is calculated in order to show the degree of variability in the data. This is used to predict the theoretical minimum wall thickness which likely exists below the lowest wall thickness actually found. This estimated value is not used in any formal calculations, and is provided only as an indication of the lowest potential existing wall thickness.

A pitting index showing the relative degree of wall thickness variation between high and low measurements offer additional insight into system condition.
